Muirhead to showcase self-disinfecting leather seat covers at Euro Bus Expo 2022
Muirhead, a trusted supplier of Fine Scottish Leather to some of the world's most respected passenger transport and aviation brands, will showcase its self-disinfecting ActiveHygiene technology at Euro Bus Expo 2022 in Birmingham next week.
Developed to safeguard passengers and rebuild confidence after COVID-19, Muirhead's ActiveHygiene leather with Polygiene Biomaster ViralOff® technology is a sustainable product with built-in antimicrobial self-cleaning properties – permanently integrated into the leather during production.
Kevin Smith, Head of Mass Transit, Muirhead, said: "Since the pandemic, the bus and coach sector has seen a rapid increase in demand for best-in-class seat hygiene. This is why we're proud to showcase Muirhead's innovative ActiveHygiene technology – an immediate solution to the challenges of the pandemic, enhancing the hygiene and protection of passenger transport interiors for the future."
Using the latest ViralOff® technology, developed by Swedish company Polygiene AB, Muirhead's ActiveHygiene leather reduces bacteria and viruses, including SARS-CoV-2 – the cause of COVID-19 – by more than 99% in less than two hours.*
Renowned for creating the lowest carbon leather in the world, Muirhead is trusted by most European bus, coach, and rail operators for its exceptional durability, comfort, and reduced total cost of ownership.
Archie Browning, Sales Director, Muirhead, added: "Muirhead has been manufacturing the finest sustainable Scottish leather since 1840, with innovation at the very heart of the business. Known for its luxury and durability, Muirhead has developed new products that offer a more hygienic solution for customers increasingly focused on well-being and lighter weight materials – supporting the move to greater efficiency and greener mobility solutions."
"All Muirhead leather is made in the UK and sets the benchmark as the lowest carbon leather available to the transportation sector – making it the most durable, hard-wearing, and long-lasting material for bus and coach interiors."
Visitors to this year's Euro Bus Expo in Birmingham can meet the Muirhead team at stand C78. Seat designs using high-performance Muirhead leather will also be on display at the Isringhausen, Lazzerini, Alexander Dennis, Kiel Seating, TEK Seating, Chapman Driver Seats, and Pelican Bus & Coach.

Sowing the seeds for sustainable uniform management
Pride and Joy will be showcasing new sustainable uniforms ranges made from recycled materials at this year’s Euro Bus Expo.
Jane Byrne, managing director of Pride and Joy and her team will be on hand to advise and assist operators in how to make their uniforms more sustainable using the very latest in recycled textile technology and also how operators can reduce the environmental impact of end of life uniforms.
Jane Byrne says, “We believe the bus and coach industry can take its sustainable travel credentials to the next level, and have been researching ways in which we can assist our customers in reducing its environmental footprint through effective management of textile waste.
"Whilst our suppliers have been developing some fantastic new products made from recycled plastic bottles, we too have been doing a lot of research into how uniforms can be disposed of in the most environmentally friendly way. We are looking forward to having lots of conversations at Euro Bus Expo to raise awareness of the impact of textile waste and to understand what our customers are currently doing with their old uniforms.
On the lead up to Euro Bus Expo, Pride and Joy is running a social media campaign to get people thinking about the sustainability questions around uniforms and textile waste. "We've called it Pride and Joy in progress, because we are on a journey to learning more, understanding how we can make a change collectively, but we can only do this with by working with our customers. This is us sharing our thought process as we move towards a more sustainable business model. EuroBus is an opportunity to talk to operators and hopefully find ways we can work together in reducing our collective environmental impact.”
"We've not seen many of our customers for a long time due to the Pandemic, and this is our opportunity to catch up with everyone." Concludes Jane.

Monapass – One App, One Account, for Open Ticket Mobility
Flowbird has developed a unique ‘open ticket’ mobile platform that delivers a ‘one-app, one-account’ environment for integrated multimodal transport, active travel and ID-based subscriptions and passes.
The Monapass app, developed by Flowbird for the Principality of Monaco, offers users access to ‘a mobility system in their pocket’ by enabling access to account-based ticketing, secure in-app m-tickets storage, combined ticketing for travel and entertainment (museums, cinemas, tours) and integrated journey planning with parking, public transport and active travel.
Flowbird’s ‘open ticket portfolio’ functionality makes it possible to import and manage third-party ID-based passes and subscriptions for transit and other services, such as e-bike hire.
“Monapass is the complete mobility companion in your pocket,” said Paul Rogers, Flowbird Sales & Marketing Director. “We are expanding the traditional scope of MaaS apps to connect an ever-wider range of services and subscriptions and make them available through a secure, single sign-on account in a mobile environment. There is no need to manage multiple ID-based accounts through separate apps and we have advanced our vision for MaaS gateway to include access to multiple services through a single account and payments are through the Flowbird payment service.”
The Principality of Monaco is committed to digital transformation through its ‘Extended Monaco’ programme. As part of this agenda, the city has worked with Flowbird to deploy Monapass as a new approach to mobility for residents, tourists, and commuters.
MaaS is key to Monaco’s environmental commitment to reduce light vehicle traffic by 20% by 2030. The mobile application makes it easier for people to use their cars less, adopt greener modes of travel and improve their overall quality of life.
