Free coach transfers to Euro Bus Expo, in partnership with Zeelo

Zeelo, the smart bus services company for organisations and specialists in finding and fulfilling demand from corporates and schools for coach services, are offering free coach transfers for Euro Bus Expo attendees.

The exhibition is taking place at Birmingham’s NEC from 1 – 3 November 2022, with the service available across the three days. Zeelo coaches will be running to and from six locations including Brighton, Cardiff, Colchester, Liverpool, Portsmouth and York.

There will be no charge for journeys taken to the industry’s largest gathering, which is set to attract 9,000 attendees, in a bid to encourage greener travel to the venue.

Commenting on the offer, Sam Ryan, CEO at Zeelo, says: “Zeelo is pleased to offer free transport on our smart buses to Euro Bus Expo visitors, and we are also looking forward to attending the event and meeting with our partners in the industry.

“This partnership with Euro Bus Expo demonstrates how using our smart bus platform can help operators to identify and build services that maximise ridership and get more coaches on the road for private services across the country.

“All this while helping corporates and schools to meet the transport needs of their staff and students wherever they live. The added benefit to commuters is that they will help reduce pollution and improve congestion with smarter, faster, safer, green and reliable bus services in partnership with the UK’s local bus operators”.

Make this the year to travel by coach

Convincing people to use more sustainable transport modes is vital for the UK to meet its carbon reduction and net zero targets, and to unlock all the benefits to the environment, society, and the nation’s health and wellbeing they bring.

It is only fitting that the sector’s showcase supports this challenge by providing lower-carbon travel options, with a Zeelo bus journey already offsetting 100% of every journey, including the dead-leg.  This free coach transfer initiative has the potential to take 900 return car journeys off the roads. Not only is this more environmentally friendly, but it also makes the exhibition more accessible and affordable for attendees.

Euro Bus Expo will bring together the thought leaders, suppliers, manufacturers and thousands of operators that all play a critical role in decarbonising transport. Visitors will discover the latest emission-reducing technologies, take part in demonstrations on zero emission vehicles, and learn about the practicalities of implementation in a series of free to attend seminars.

Says event director Helen Conway: “Visitors taking advantage of this offer will have further networking opportunities, can multitask on route, experience the services that we as an industry offer and advocate – and most importantly, will lead the way with making small changes towards modal shift. If you've never considered travelling to Euro Bus Expo by coach before, make this the year that you do”.

How to book

Coaches will be departing from six locations including Brighton, Cardiff, Colchester, Liverpool, Portsmouth, and York. Attendees interested in picking up these services on route to and from Birmingham are encouraged to complete the online booking form, as additional pickups will be arranged based on demand. Attendees will be notified in advance about drop off and pick up times, when and where to meet.

The finalists of the 2022 routeone Awards have been announced, revealing some of the most outstanding operators and people in the coach and bus industry.

The Awards are only open to those who have been nominated by their industry peers, so to have been invited to enter is an achievement in itself. All nominees were invited to submit an entry, detailing why they are deserving of the industry’s highest accolades.

“As ever, the Awards seek to reward people and operators for their exemplary achievements at a fantastic in-person presentation

evening where we can truly celebrate the best in our industry. It is a huge achievement to be shortlisted, and we wish all our finalists the best of luck.”

A total of 68 finalists will compete across 15 categories, including two new categories. The Above and Beyond Award recognises individuals or businesses that have gone the extra mile to support their organisation and the wider coach and bus industry since 2020.

Interviews for six people categories will take place in September to help the judges to determine the winners.

There is no shortlist for the Special Award. It is the only category that is not open to entries and is, instead, decided between the judges based on who deserves special recognition for their contribution to the industry.

Now in its 16th year, the routeone Awards boasts a judging panel of seven senior industry figures, each bringing a wide level of knowledge and experience from a variety of disciplines. Returning judges include Joan Aitken OBE, former traffic commissioner for Scotland; Kevin Middleton, former engineering consultant; Peter Nash, former head of commercial policy for Stagecoach UK Bus; Richard Delahoy, transport consultant; and Steve Dewhurst, former managing director for Volvo Bus.

Former Nottingham City Transport managing director Mark Fowles OBE and former Volvo Bus product engineering manager Norman Thomas join the panel for their first year.

The identity of the winners remains a closely guarded secret until the presentation evening, which will be held on Wednesday 2 November at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.

Tickets for the highly anticipated event are available for £173 + VAT from routeoneawards.com.

Transport Minister to speak at Euro Bus Expo

A headline speaker has been confirmed for the opening keynote of the Masterclass Theatre on the second day of this year’s Euro Bus Expo, which is taking place at the NEC, Birmingham on 1-3 November.

Baroness Vere, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department of Transport, will open the second day of sessions in the Masterclass Theatre. The presentation will cover a whistle-stop tour of the government’s priorities for the bus and coach industry. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to submit questions for consideration on the day.

Says event director Helen Conway: “We’re delighted that Baroness Vere will be speaking at Euro Bus Expo. As the premier exhibition for the industry, there's no better place to witness the sector's scale, innovation, professionalism, and excellence.

“This commitment from the transport minister demonstrates the importance of the sector on the government agenda. No doubt visitors will have questions to put forward. We encourage those to be sent in advance to [email protected].”

One of many Masterclass Theatre highlights

The keynote address will be one of many highlights of the free-to-attend trade show. The Masterclass Theatre will host other presentations, panel talks, and interactive roundtable discussions. These sessions will allow attendees to ask questions, voice opinions, and get up-to-date news from industry leaders.

Decarbonisation will be a big theme this year. There will be presentations on the goals, challenges, and solutions the industry faces on its journey to net zero – with an additional focus on what all of this means for small and medium operators. Visitors will get a better understanding of the future landscape and how to ready their businesses.

Elsewhere in the show, the Zero Emission Zone will make its Euro Bus Expo debut. The Zone will highlight the latest vehicles designed to decarbonise passenger travel, with demonstrations taking place from several leading manufacturers.

Attendees can also discover new ways to move their businesses forward with the latest products, services, and vehicles on offer from hundreds of exhibiting brands.
