Jonas Alvin has once again claimed the prestigious title of Eco Chef of the Year, winning the 2024 competition at The Nordic Organic Food Fair on October 10 at Kistamässan in Stockholm. This marks Alvin’s second victory, having previously won in 2017. His innovative use of sustainable ingredients, including moose heart as the centrepiece of his dish, impressed the jury and highlighted the harmonious relationship between sustainability and culinary excellence.

The competition, held during the Nordic Organic Food Fair, challenged finalists to create dishes from a mystery box filled with organic ingredients such as game meat, local root vegetables, and seasonal vegetables. The jury praised Alvin’s work, stating, “With aesthetic, season-driven cooking and technical precision, Jonas Alvin embodies sustainable gastronomy and is a true ambassador for organic cuisine.”

Alvin sees sustainability as central to his cooking philosophy. “Winning again feels fantastic,” he said. “This competition is about more than food – it’s about reducing waste, making smart choices, and showing how delicious sustainability can be. The moose heart is an underutilized ingredient that deserves more attention.”

His win reinforces his role as a leader in eco-friendly gastronomy, inspiring both fellow chefs and the next generation to prioritise sustainability in their kitchens.

We are grateful to Ekomatcentrum for their collaboration on this vital competition that resonates deeply within the industry!
