This year’s Natural Food Show at the Natural & Organic Products Europe trade event will host a new Soil Association Organic Chilled Food Pavilion when it returns to London’s Olympia on 13-14 April.
This highly-anticipated new pavilion, launched in association with the Soil Association (who previously hosted The Natural Food Show’s popular organic marketplace), reaffirms the event’s on-going commitment to supporting the UK’s organic market. Set to feature new food and drink products from nine Soil Association licensees, it aims to raise buyers’ awareness of the quality, innovation and differentiation available within the fresh organic marketplace.
According to Soil Association trade consultant Finn Cottle, chilled food accounts for more than 40% of the UK’s £1.64bn[1] organic market. Whilst the economic downturn has affected all sectors, not least organic products, there have been some exceptions – with sales across the chilled food category (at least for some suppliers) increasing steadily year-on-year.
Leading organic wholesaler (and Natural Food Show exhibitor) Essential Trading is one prime example. Following a 200% growth in their refrigerated goods sales over the last three years, they have reportedly doubled their cold storage capacity and increased their range by some 145 products and 9 brands.
Organic food and drink buyers looking to do the same will find plenty on offer in the Soil Association Organic Chilled Food Pavilion, which will feature everything from cheese, milk, yoghurt, cream, and butter, to meat, fish, drinks, ice cream, and desserts.
“The Soil Association is delighted to be working with Diversified UK (the show’s organiser) to provide the ‘Organic Chiller’,” comments Cottle. “It offers a perfect focus for chilled organic food at the show, complimenting the many non-chilled products that are also on offer.”
“We are very excited to participate in The Natural Food Show for the first time,” says Natasha Bowes, founder of Bio-tiful Dairy. The first exhibitor to join the new pavilion’s line-up, Bowes is the creator of an award-winning range of organic cultured milk drinks made from authentic Russian recipes.
“It is very re-assuring for a young and committed organic dairy producer to know that there is a strong platform for our community, supported by the Soil Association, which can help us to build our presence in the market and meet new customers,” she says.
Other new, organic-certified companies looking to increase their brand awareness at this year’s Natural Food Show include Trioni, with its Daioni flavoured milk drink range; dairy-free ice cream supplier Jollyum; LoveRaw Organic Food Company, producers of superfood energy bars; and artisan muesli manufacturer Primrose’s Kitchen.
Whilst returning exhibitors looking to enjoy a repeat performance of last year’s packed aisles (there were 8,810 show attendees in 2013, up 20% from 2012), include Doves Farm Foods, Clearspring, Alara Wholefoods, Queenswood Natural Foods, Organico Realfoods, and Tideford Organic Foods. All of which will be exhibiting in the Organic Trade Board (OTB) Pavilion.
The Raw Food Pavilion, Vegan Society Pavilion, and New Products Showcase are also all back on the menu.
As in previous years, international organic producers will also be well represented. For 2014, there are new country pavilions from Sicily and Russia (the latter will be showcasing unique products from around ten of its richly-diverse regions). They join returning pavilion contingents from Argentina, France, Italy, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the USA. New exhibitors from Romania, Sierra Nevada in Spain, and Crete – the largest of the Greek Islands, have also just been confirmed.
