The New Product Showcase at next month’s Natural Food Show will feature more newly-launched food and drink products than ever, says organiser Diversified Communications UK. Part of the Natural & Organic Products Europe trade event, taking place over 1-2 April at Olympia, London, the Natural Food Show will boast a mouth-watering array of natural, organic, biodynamic, Fairtrade, free-from and special diet products – many on show for the first time – from over 300 exhibitors from all around the world.
Widely recognised as the annual launching pad (for both the UK and European retail market) for some of the most exclusive new food and drink products in the natural and organic industry, the event’s New Product Showcase is a popular destination for visiting retailers.
“The number one reason attendees cite for visiting Natural & Organic Products Europe is ‘finding new products’,” says event director Simon Barry. “New products provide retailers with lots of fresh ideas and excitement – they keep things interesting year after year. And I’m delighted to say that we have already confirmed more new launches for our 2012 New Product Showcase at this stage than ever before!”
In addition to more new products, this year’s New Product Showcase will also see an increase in the number of food and drink orientated categories within it – with ‘Drink’ and ‘Special Diet’ enjoying their own separate categories for the first time (joining the pre-existing ‘Food’ and ‘Organic Food’ categories). Reflecting the growing diversity within the natural and organic market itself, the introduction of these new categories follows an unprecedented rise in the number of new companies exhibiting speciality drinks (from herbal infusions to flavoured waters, from functional shots to fruit cordials), and free from/special diet food products, at the event over the past few years.
New ‘Drink’ category set to make a splash at the Natural Food Show 2012
From established big names to emerging brand leaders, companies exhibiting new drink products within the New Product Showcase include: Dragonfly & Tick Tock Teas, with its caffeine free Dragonfly Rooibos Vanilla tea; Equal Exchange, with its ‘Women Farmers Grew This Coffee’ range, which is sourced exclusively from Fairtrade certified women cooperatives; herbal infusions specialist Heath & Heather, who have added ‘Sage & Lemon Myrtle’ to its wellbeing range; Euro-Colombian startup company JUNA, whose new all-natural ‘Fruit Nectar’ range comes in four flavours – Lulo, Guanábana, Mora and Mango; Kara Dairy Free, with its new ‘Chocolate+Calcium’ coconut milk drink; artisan drink producer The Botanical Drinks Co, with LULL – made from nature’s finest botanicals; organic importers Melia Foods LLP, with its Proganic 100% Organic Black Mulberry juice; MUNE, who’ll be adding MUNE Healthy Water and MUNE Healthy Water Revive to its daily immune boost range; Tree of Life UK, with its new Rabenhorst In Balance juice range, which consists of Wheatgrass, Barleygrass, organic Wheatgrass Cocktail, and Barleygrass Cocktail; Unione Trading (UK), with its ALO Exposed (Aloe Vera Juice+Pulp) drink, made with real aloe vera extract; and Sci-MX Nutrition, with its PRO-GO Ready To Drink Protein Shake.
Drinks made with coconut water – a natural isotonic beverage which is high in potassium, naturally sweet and low in calories – remain a key trend for 2012 and are well-represented at this year’s show. First time exhibitors include ZICO Coconut Water, Chi Coconut Water (Chi 330ml 100% Pure Coconut water), Go Coco Coconut Water, and Melting Pot Alimentos (Rio coconut water), who have all entered products into the New Product Showcase; plus Cocofina and returning exhibitor Coconutty.
A wealth of innovative healthy hot and soft drinks are also being introduced across the show floor, including a new premium European brand of delicious 100% certified organic (Soil Association approved) carbonated soft drinks, available in Cola, Orange and Lemon/Lime, from Oggu; Pukka Herb’s first ever tea selection pack – ‘Tempt your taste buds’ (being showcased alongside the re-launch of its three original teas – Relax, Revitalise and Refresh which have been given a fresh look for the company’s 10th anniversary); a new range of wild berry, vitamin rich juices imported from Finland by Suffolk-based Nordberry; a new range of five biodynamic, fairtrade, organic herbal teas (cultivated in Egypt) from Essential Trading Co-operative – available in Camomile; Camomile & Spearmint, Hibiscus, Peppermint & Spearmint, and Peppermint; teapigs matcha – an organic green tea powder that’s packed full of antioxidants and nutrients; a new range of 16 loose leaf tea blends (including Cherry & Beetroot and Tulsi herb with Orange & Ginger) from Storm Tea; NEUNER’S organic Baby Stomach Ease Tea – the UK’s first and only organic herbal tea for babies – from Immergruen green imports (exclusive distributors for Austrian organic brands Neuner’s, Sonnentor and MyE. organic energy drink); a new range of ready-to-drink Fruity Spring Water from Rocks Organic; and a new gluten-free beer called Pathfinder Ale from Glebe Farm Foods.
New ‘Special Diet’ category proves a popular choice with first time exhibitors
As increasingly more consumers choose free from and special diet alternatives both out of necessity and as part of a healthier lifestyle, the search for wheat, gluten, dairy, meat, eggs, yeast, soya, and sugar replacements remain a priority for retailers looking to cater for this fast-growing market. A recent rise in new start-ups supplying ‘Special Diet’ products (combined with established brands now introducing ‘Special Diet’ alternatives), has led to a bumper crop of new ‘Special Diet’ product launches both in the New Product Showcase itself and across the show floor.
Amongst the first time exhibitors participating in this year’s ‘Special Diet’ section of the New Product Showcase are 100% pure fruit snacks supplier Annie’s – Food You Trust, with its Annie’s Extra Fibre Fruit Leather; Cathy’s Spelt for Health, with its range of yeast free Multiseed Spelt Bread, Wholemeal Spelt Mix, Tomato and Herb Spelt Bread/Pizza Base Mix, White Spelt Scone Mix and Flapjack Spelt Mix (which won a two-star Gold Great Taste Award in 2011); Happy Kitchen, with its vegan, gluten-free Happy Kitchen Brownie; and Kallo Foods, who’ll be exhibiting five new launches – Almond Dream with Calcium & Vits, Oat Dream with Calcium & Vits, Corn & Rice Snacks (Sweet Chilli), Corn and Rice Snacks (Caramel), and Organic Belg. Choc. Rice Cake Thins.
Newcomers Freedom Deli, with its award winning range of handmade gluten and wheat free meals, will be launching new products that include traditional scotch eggs and a pastry topped Chicken and Leek Pie; Miracle Noodle, will showcase its calorie free, soy free, gluten free, Kosher Shirataki noodle range; and German vegan specialist TOPAS GmbH (founders of Wheaty), will be launching its new Vegankebab Doner, Chorizo Sausage and Seitan Medallions to the UK.
Whilst returning ‘free from’ exhibitors include Marigold Health Foods, with its 100% natural, dairy and gluten free CO YO Coconut Milk Yoghurt, and Big Oz, with its Big Oz Organic Gluten Free Mix (both of whom have entries in the showcase); plus Nature’s Path UK, who’ll be unveiling its first foray into ‘free-from’ snacking for younger coeliacs with its Crispy Rice Bites range (available in Choco Nobbly, Berry Bobbly & Peanut Butter flavours); Natural Balance Foods, who’ll be introducing two new flavours to its Nākd Infused Raisins range – Crazy Cola and Tangy Lime; Natur Boutique, with its new Tropica range of organic snacking bars and fruits; The Booja-Booja Company, with its three new chocolate truffle flavours – Rum Sozzled Sultana, Banoffee Toffee and Stem Ginger; Amy’s Kitchen, with its new canned, vegan chilli and the vegetarian company’s latest fresh-frozen, gluten-free Country Vegetables and Pasta; Eskal Foods Europe, with its new wheat and gluten free Bio Organic range; and Windmill Organics, who’ll be adding Gluten Free Porridge Oats, Muesli and Blueberry Muffins to its Amisa range.
The awards for Best New Drink Product and Best New Special Diet Product will be chosen by visitors to the showcase throughout Sunday 1 April (the first day of the Natural Food Show at Natural & Organic Products Europe) and announced at the prestigious Natural & Organic Awards ceremony later that same night.
