Staying ahead of the curve with consumer trends and research is imperative for any buyer or retailer looking to source the next sustainable health and wellness products to put on their shelves. Learning from the experts is key, and this year’s Eco Life Scandinavia is the perfect opportunity to do just that.
Returning to MalmöMässan in Sweden on 13-14 November, the two-day trade show’s packed seminar programme will feature a range of industry thought-leaders, including Euromonitor International, Holland & Barrett (Sweden), Packbridge, Ecovia Intelligence, Vegetarian Society of Denmark, Paradiset and Oatly – talking about a range of topics affecting the health and wellness industry in Scandinavia today.
From megatrends to mushrooms
With more consumers choosing to adopt ‘ecological’ lifestyles, many health product developments (including innovations at the show) are influenced by these consumer trends and tastes that are always changing and evolving. Food industry and retail professional Rebecca Wiegärtner will discuss what food and global ‘megatrends’ are influencing modern day customers, and what consumer types and product developments are emerging.
“Visitors to my session will get an insight into how exactly global megatrends and current events are intertwined with food trends and thus reflect on consumer behaviour. I will show market data as proof of this development, give examples of different consumer types within this area and show products that meet the current customer demand. Ultimately, I want a visitor to my session to leave inspired,” says Rebecca Wiegärtner, whose session will take place on 13 November at 1pm.
From megatrends to global trends, don’t miss Jim Manson, editor-in-chief of international news web portal Natural Products Global, look back on NPG’s daily news coverage over the last year to identify the biggest global trends currently impacting natural and organic business (14 November at 11am).
The Natural Theatre will also include an exciting session about the health benefits of mushrooms – with biochemist, Chinese herbalist and author Martin Powell. The session taking place on 13 November at 2pm, will discuss how mushrooms have been used in traditional medicines for centuries, and why it has seen a surge in popularity in recent years.
From sustainable eating to sustainable packaging
With the rise in plant-based diets and dairy-free alternatives increasing, Tea Thaning, research analyst at Euromonitor International, will shed light on the performance and forecast for meat and dairy free alternatives in the Nordic region. Taking place on 13 November at 11am, and on 14 November at 1pm, the presentation will seek to contextualise consumers’ understanding of alternative products by highlighting the impact of flexitarian diets, health trends, and sustainability concerns on consumption patterns and consumer preferences. As well as this, don’t miss Mie Nordly, head of business collaborations at Vegetarian Society of Denmark, talk about trends in the Danish vegetarian consumer segment, based on surveys with more than 4.200 vegans, vegetarians, and flexitarians and a nationwide study by Coop Analyse (on 13 November at 3pm).
With plastic packaging alternatives still high on the sustainability agenda, the show will close with a dedicated ‘Sustainability in Packaging Workshop’ with Packbridge, from 3.35pm until 4:45pm. A range of speakers will take to the stage to discuss the latest research regarding eco-friendly ingredients and packaging in a series of interactive sessions – allowing the audience to gain invaluable insight into suitable packaging solutions and what more can be done.
Innovation Pitch Live to Holland & Barrett returns
Not one to be missed, the popular Innovation Pitch Live to Holland & Barret (Sweden) will return to the Natural Theatre. Taking place on 14 November at 3pm, competing exhibitors will be invited to ‘pitch’ their new product innovations to Holland & Barrett Sweden’s senior buying team live – to gain a potential listing with the health store chain. They’ll also have to win over a theatre audience full of visiting buyers and retailers in the process, as their votes may help swing the judges’ decision.
