A day in the life of… a marketing executive

A day in the life of… a marketing executive

Next up in our day in the life series, we spoke to Conchi Garrote who works in the Brighton office as a marketing executive for Organic Food Iberia and Eco Living Iberia.

Tell us a bit about your background before Diversified

Before becoming part of this great family I worked in many different roles, from waitress, artist, dancer and chef in Spain in order to pay for my studies, to marketing manager, designer and social media specialist.

How do you get to work in the morning?

I walk every day for around 20 minutes, and I like to see the sea and sometimes the sunrise in the morning on my way to work.

Is there such a thing as a typical day for you? If so, what’s it like?

I usually get into the office at 8 o’clock, to help adjust my time to the one in Spain and Portugal. Normally, when I arrive to the office there are not too many people there, but I like to say hello to the rest of the early birds and have a coffee with ‘my guys’, Fernando and Alex, who are also working on Organic Food Iberia and Eco Living Iberia with me. They are amazing, to be honest. Then, we meet at our desks to discuss the day’s agenda and split up tasks related to media partners, social media, website updates, marketing strategies to be followed, etc.

What do you do for lunch?

Every day for lunchtime Fernando (marketing executive), Alex, (senior sales executive), Manuela (accounts receivable executive) and I have lunch together at the DivCom café, as a typical Spanish family. We are not all Spanish and sometimes more people join us, like Ross and Rob who work in design or Jill who’s part of the data team. We welcome everyone, and we love talking and laughing.

What’s the best part of your job?

In my opinion the best part of my role is that every day we are doing different things, sharing opinions and having fun, as well.

What’s the most challenging aspect of your role?

The shows we are working on are new and we have to work harder to set up the foundations of an excellent event that will be massive, and this is the most challenging thing about the role.

What’s the best thing about working at Diversified?

The team I work with. We are not workmates any more, we are family, and I’m so happy about that and grateful to Diversified for hiring excellent people.

What are your hobbies/interests outside work?

I love rock climbing, surfing, skating, painting and making handicrafts with wool, seeds or whatever I can find around. As many people say to me, my hobbies sometimes can look scary and different, but I think that if you don’t try something you’ll never know if you like it or not and I love exploring things and look up anything I don’t know.

If you weren’t in this role, what job would you do?

I would probably be working in marketing in Australia or New Zealand or as a chef on my own organic restaurant in another country where I could climb, surf and meet new people.
