This month’s day in the life post features Helen Conway, the event director for Euro Bus Expo and Coach & Bus UK, who splits her time between the Peterborough office and working from home. Find out more about her day-to-day at Diversified and what she loves about working here.
Tell us a bit about your background before Diversified
Diversified acquired Expo Management in 2014. It was in the year 2000 where I started my life in exhibitions having never before even heard of what was one before that moment! Prior to this I worked with young people for seven years in various settings of residential centres and schools. The transition was quite interesting as I feel I went from working with little kids to big kids!
How do you get to work in the morning?
Three days a week I trundle down my stairs to my dining room and log on and hey presto… I’m at work. The other two days I jump in my car and head down the A14 to our Peterborough office.
Is there such a thing as a typical day for you? If so, what’s it like?
Not sure about the word ‘typical’! It’s generally an up at 6.30am, get my girls to breakfast club for 8.00am, then get on with the job for the day. Then pick up from after school club and do what a mummy does to get them ready for bedtime! If my hubby is home then I might chance my hand and try and get to the gym but that can be a bit hit and miss tbh.
What do you do for lunch?
It depends really! If I’m in p’boro my days can be filled with meetings, so sometimes it’s a cuppa soup that I can take in with me or carrot and dips or meat and tomatoes – yummy I hear you cry! We’re not blessed with so many beautiful eateries as the team in Brighton are!
What’s the best part of your job?
When someone says THANK YOU. Whether it’s a visitor, reader, advertiser, exhibitor or colleague…..in my opinion you can’t put a price on someone thanking you for your efforts – makes it all worthwhile!
What’s the most challenging aspect of your role?
Questions like this!! Remaining positive when the pressure is on!
What’s the best thing about working at Diversified?
Knowing I’m working for a company that values its people and who wants their team to be fulfilled by the work they do.
What are your hobbies/interests outside work?
I love socialising with my friends and family. I head to the gym – but more out of need than wish!
If you weren’t in this role, what job would you do?
I’d quite like to work with inmates in mediation between offender and victim – pretty drastic I know but hey…
Are you an early riser or a night owl?
If I had to be pushed for an answer then I guess I’m more of a night owl!
