This month’s day in the life feature shines the spotlight on Chris Brazier, group event director for lunch!, Casual Dining and Commercial Kitchen.
Tell us a bit about your background before Diversified
After university I worked for the BBC. My first job was as a runner for Anne Robinson on The Weakest Link. I then worked on the BAFTA awards and with many comedians including Jimmy Carr on Your Face or Mine before getting to produce an episode of 60 Minute Makeover. After that I moved to Brighton to become an incredibly average stand-up comedian.
How do you get to work in the morning?
I drive over the beautiful south downs from Ditchling by car. Amazing views and a good chance to catch up on the news, a podcast or a new album.
Is there such a thing as a typical day for you? If so, what’s it like?
Not really, but if there was it would feature: meetings with our amazing sales, marketing or ops teams, asking people to speak at a trade show, interfering with a floorplan, a huge amount of social media, discussing a press release, proofing a marketing piece, looking at show feature designs, scheduling more meetings, looking for a calculator and generally trying to help where I can.
What do you do for lunch?
At the moment I go to itsu almost every day as I’m trying to lose weight.
What’s the best part of your job?
Working with the amazing people at Diversified. I still get hugely excited at every single contract that comes in and every time someone amazing agrees to speak at the show.
What’s the most challenging aspect of your role?
Time, privacy and distractions!
What’s the best thing about working at Diversified?
The people, the trust and the fun.
What are your hobbies/interests outside work?
Outside of work everything is based around my 2 young kids these days so I get to do a bit of swimming and lots of nice country walks. Interests include cooking, coffee, art, film, electronic music, heavy rock music and football (SEAGULLS!!!!)
If you weren’t in this role, what job would you do?
Maybe stand-up comedy but I think I’ve been so lucky to learn about coffee shops, pubs and restaurants through this role that maybe I’d give hospitality a go.
Are you an early riser or a night owl?
Both. Asleep around midnight. Awake by 6am.
What’s the highlight of your career so far?
There are quite a few because I’ve been so lucky to be surrounded by amazing people. Helping to build lunch! to a massive show, helping launch Casual Dining, helping launch Commercial Kitchen, winning a few awards and helping to build amazing teams that are a pleasure for everyone to work with.
What do you want to achieve in the next 5 years?
To create loads of opportunities for the talented people around me by launching lots of brilliant trade shows.
