A day in the life of…. a operations manager

This month’s day in the life post features Richard Randall, the operations manager who works from our lovely Brighton office. Find out more about his day-to-day at Diversified and what he loves about working here.

Tell us a bit about your background before joining Diversified

I studied Outdoor Adventure Management at University before working at Diversified. Not really very relevant to events but there were some units that I could use to help me in the job!

How do you get to work in the morning?

I cycle from Shoreham, its great to cycle along the seafront (less so when it’s raining) and the office has secure bike storage lockers to use.

What do you do for lunch?

A lot of the time it’s leftovers from the night before, but I do like the odd lunch out as we have so many places right on our doorstep.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

Going onsite and seeing the event come to life. We spend hours planning, from the floor plans to stands, shell schemes, furniture and event graphics – it’s a really great moment seeing all the hard work come together.

What’s the most challenging aspect of your role?

Although it’s my favourite part of the job, going onsite can sometimes be the most challenging part as well as you often have to deal with high stress situations.

What’s the best thing about working at Diversified?

The people. You’ll make lots of friends working at Diversified and the company organises lots of social get togethers.

What are your hobbies/interests outside of work?

I like to spend time with my baby daughter. I also enjoy stand up paddle boarding and kayaking – anything that gets me outside enjoying the sun and sea.

If you weren’t in this role, what job would you be doing?

I would utilise my degree more and work in Outdoor Education.
