A day in the life of…. a marketing executive

This month’s day in the life post features Lauren Addicott, a marketing executive who works from our lovely Brighton office. Find out more about her day-to-day tasks at Diversified and what she loves most about working here.

Tell us a bit about your background before joining Diversified

I moved to Brighton from Warwickshire to complete an MA in Critical & Creative Writing at University of Sussex – and I absolutely fell in love with the city! My initial career path was in publishing, and I spent three wonderful years working for an independent publisher in Lewes. I worked across marketing and international right sales, which meant organising and attending our presence at book fairs all across the world. This is where I discovered my love of trade events, and after a brief sojourn to a software company, Diversified popped up on my radar as not only an amazing place to work, but also because I am passionate about the natural and organic sector.

How do you get to work in the morning?

I’m lucky enough to live a stone’s throw from the office, so I cycle or walk.

Is there such a thing as a typical day for you? If so, what’s it like?

Depending on where we are in the show cycle, my day could be writing and building emails, editing the show website(s), creating design briefs, helping organise various show events or responding to queries from exhibitors and visitors.

What do you do for lunch?

Our offices have a pretty fab communal area, which we’re just now getting back into the habit of using, post-Covid. That said, I’m usually found in a café with a book between 1-2pm.

Whats the best part of your job?

Undoubtedly the best parts are seeing the anticipation and creativity of build day, and then watching excited visitors flood in as the doors open! It’s a joy walking the show floor and seeing hundreds of positive interactions between buyers and exhibitors that could be absolutely game-changing for either party.

What is the most challenging aspect of your role?

Sore feet at the end of a show – but my FitBit stats have never been higher!

Are you an early riser or a night owl?

Early riser – reading, gymming or sitting with a coffee in the morning feels like bonus time.

If you weren’t in this role, what job would you be doing?

I would probably still be in publishing and battling with the decision to leave my beloved city for London.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

A few years ago, I bagged a spot at Beijing Book Fair, selling the rights to my company’s children’s book imprint. That, and seeing the Natural & Organic Products Europe 2022 show finally open after covid and a two-year hiatus, it’s the biggest show in our portfolio and the atmosphere was electric!
