On 10-11 May, in just under two weeks’ time, Accountex – the UK’s biggest accountancy event returns to London ExCeL. Over 6,500 accountancy professionals from across the UK will be there to discover the latest products, services and solutions from over 200 leading industry innovators.
Here’s a first look at what’s new from some of the exhibitors for 2017:
Concur is previewing Concur Expense Smart Drive, a new technology that automatically captures mileage data to provide seamless, accurate expense reporting. It integrates into the Concur mobile app to deliver a ‘touchless’ distance capture and reimbursement process that can help drive significant savings (stand 220).
Thomson Reuters is demonstrating its new cloud solution – built specifically for MTD and already taking part in the HMRC pilot. Making Tax Digital is the biggest challenge facing the profession. Many accountants are seeing Accountex as an opportunity to review software ahead of the new digital process. They are also giving away twenty £25 Amazon vouchers in their jam packed goody bags (stand 1030).
QuickBooks will be providing guidance on Making Tax Digital and its impact to practices, as well as showcasing new functionality such as CIS at the show (stand 990).
Castaway Forecasting is demonstrating its new and current software functionality. Regarded as a natural replacement for WinForecast, Castaway is a tool for business advisors, bankers, finance professionals and small-medium business managers, which has the ability to perform a range of serious decision-making functions (stand 463).
Instant CPD is launching its 2017 Accountex Standard Online CPD Package, which connects accountants with online CPD anytime and anywhere. Video courses are streamed in high-definition, presented by experts, and come complete with PDF notes and slides. Instant CPD is independently accredited by the CPD standards office and the courses can be viewed on all web-enabled devices (stand 900).
BTCSoftware is officially launching its Making Tax Digital compliant tax software solutions for accountants. These stem from work helping HMRC’s digital team develop MTD technologies; including agent authorization. CEO Rob Ellis will be available to answer questions about their HMRC MTD work. The team will also be joined (at various times throughout the show) by representatives from Xero, Just Accounts and Brightpay, whose software integrates with the BTCSoftware tax software suite (stand 230).
TeamSystem is introducing its latest software, which includes: Reviso – an invoicing and accounting collaborative platform with more than 100,000 users; VOIspeed UCloud – business telephony with real time information on clients; and Aliaslab ID Sign – the only international solution with instantaneous e-signature systems (stand 212).
Time Tracker by eBillity is launching its new Invoice Tracker product, which will send automated email reminders to clients to help pay faster. With Time Tracker users can log time from any device, submit hours for admin approval, then sync those hours with accounting software for faster billing and payroll. Visitors can meet eBillity’s co-founder Douglas, and enter a competition to win an Amazon Echo at the show (stand 710).
Exact Cloud Business Software now work with Movemybooks to provide data migration from Sage50 and Quickbooks Desktop straight into Exact. Visitors can take part in a Formula1 race competition, take a selfie at their entrance booth, take a break in the coffee area, or be inspired by the Exact Theatre, where industry experts are ready to engage with their thought-provoking ideas (stand 750).
Hornblower Business Brokers, a specialist in business sales and acquisitions for engineering and B2B service sectors, is launching a Strategic Partnering Program for accountancy firms. It offers the opportunity to bolt-on an M&A and business sale capability to firms’ services and the ability to help clients through the whole business cycle (stand 313).
Foretagsplatsen is launching its reporting tool to the UK market. It’s designed to transform accounting data to stylish visual reports, which are easy to understand; even for someone without any accounting experience. Until recently this tool has only been available in Sweden but with an upcoming integration to Xero, it will now help digitalise delivery for UK clients too (stand 930).
TaxCalc is showcasing its Making Tax Digital solution at the show. Taxcalc has been innovating in the tax and accountancy software sector for over twelve years, bringing features such as SimpleStep, Check and Finish, CloudConnect, as well as a whole host of integrated products, that make life in practice, or as a finance professional, easier (stand 160).
VAT International, experts in global VAT compliance, global VAT recovery and VAT data analytics, is launching VIVAT. This new, automated, cloud based service can create EU VAT returns in seconds. In addition to live demonstrations, the first 100 visitors to register their interest will automatically be added to a VIP list, entitling them to a complimentary VIVAT registration and set-up worth £2,000 (stand 720).
MyFirmsApp is showcasing its new Virtual Accounts Assistant (Artificial Intelligence). The development, delivered in partnership with Amazon Lex, means accountants will be able to effectively put themselves in their clients’ pocket, 24/7 to answer questions. Also launching: a new cloud portal, advanced income and expenditure trackers, and a fully compatible MTD solution (stand 1120).
FreeAgent is announcing the results of its ‘Future of accounting’ survey at the show. CEO Ed Molyneux is delivering one of Wednesday’s keynote speeches: ‘Rise of the robots: accountancy at the crossroads’. While on Thursday, business development director Kevin McCallum will host a session on Open Banking and its implications for the accountancy profession in the Digital Innovation & Technology Theatre. Visitors that ask for a demo of FreeAgent will be entered into a prize draw to win a pair of state-of-the-art Bose headphones, worth £250 (stand 310).
MyWorkpapers is unveiling the latest enhancements to its industry-proven, cloud-based platform for year-end workpaper generation, collaboration and reconciliation – ‘MyWorkpapers Practice’, which helps accountancy firms to retain and attract more clients. Key benefits include significant time and cost savings, improved workflow and query management and support for Making Tax Digital (stand 640).
YOOZ UK and Kodak Alaris are exhibiting together for the first time at Accountex. Kodak Alaris (IM) is demonstrating the powerful combination of its latest wireless and networked desktop scanners, the Kodak i1150WN and the Kodak i1190WN. They are mobile app ready to support BYOD and mobility in the workplace, and work in conjunction with Yooz cloud-based Accounts Payable Automation solution, which is exclusively distributed by ITESOFT (stand 130).
Willow Pay is offering visitors the opportunity to trial its new payroll services for free, with no obligation to commit. Their payroll professionals will be on hand to talk through their processes (stand 944).
Abbey Tax is introducing TaxDesk at the show. This new telephone advice service delivers a range of high level and complex tax advice. Their team boasts over 60 award-winning, specialist tax and funding experts, which are available as and when to ensure businesses maximise tax saving opportunities and source appropriate funding (stand 192).
Bizdocs – The Digital Transformation Portal is launching its OneTouch technology for one step scanning. Bizdocs allows users to scan and share all business records with an accounting office; all records are automatically sorted by document types, booked and accounting entries are created in a matter of seconds. All business records are then automatically named and archived in an easy interface. They will be raffling Magic Boxes at the show (stand 730).
Kamozo is launching its Practice Management Software, an easy to use, cloud-based app designed by accountants specifically for accounting practices. It helps keep practices organised, and improves firm profitability. Kamozo manages client due dates, reminds staff of client tasks, and helps track the exact amount of time spent per client (stand 569).
bob, the people operating system, is giving away £1,000 to spend on one lucky winner’s employees at Accountex. Smart accountants know that their people make their business, but often invest in software before they invest in their people (who are the ones who have to use the software!). This results in ‘shelfware’ because the software isn’t embraced, and ends up sat on the shelf. In his seminar, Alex Weddell of bob will be showing why that’s the wrong approach, and how to get it right (stand 780).
Receipt Bot is launching its new automated bookkeeping and data entry app. Simply take pictures of receipts, forward billing emails to a dedicated email, or scan in invoices, bank and card statements – and Receipt Bot sorts all the documents, and accurately enters data in cloud accounting software; such as Xero or Quickbooks Online. They will run multiple draws at the show to give away 100 free pro subscriptions, worth over £100 each (stand 420).
Dod-dle Corporation is launching ‘Dod-dle Cash’, a simplified cash version of dod-dle, which still offers users great functionality. Dod-dle was created for MTD by a UK accountant, and is one of the original 19 companies working with HMRC (stand 468).
X-VAT is presenting its new VATMAN product at the show. This VAT resource covers advice, consultancy, training, compliance, international VAT, disputes and tribunals. The X-VAT Network draws on an unparalleled reservoir of technical expertise from highly experienced VAT professionals and can deal with any VAT problem that arises (stand 800).
The Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals is offering an exclusive show offer on its CIPP membership. Join as an Affiliate or Associate member and they will either waive the £35 registration fee or visitors can receive a compact payroll reference book worth over £35 (stand 832).
Webexpenses is offering Accountex visitors the chance to be one of the first to try its new virtual reality expenses game. Webexpenses provides award-winning, cloud-based software that transforms how companies manage their employee expenses – turning a complex, manual process into an efficient, automated one; proven to save organisations both time and money (stand 240).
Excel is still deemed to be the most versatile tool on the market, capable of dealing with the intricacies of group consolidations. DataDear’s integration with Xero accounting has evolved, further enabling accountants to easily create consolidated reports across a group of unlimited related organisations directly in Excel. Thanks to a live FX feed, multi-currency groups are also supported (stand 362).
onkho is a new cloud practice management software platform developed specifically for small accountancy firms by accountants in practice. It is built around the concept of ‘delighting clients’, with the focus on helping accountants deliver exceptional service rather than simply managing workflows; leading to stronger client retention and business growth (stand 972).
Premium Collections is offering Accountex visitors a free business credit report on any UK company, in exchange for their business card. They’ll email the report after the show (stand 600).
BDO Services is launching BDODrive, a client first, think differently, approach to helping companies succeed. They will be demonstrating how partnering with Microsoft, and other organisations, has enabled their ambitious growth story. Visitors can explore first hand how technology and innovation can change how professional firms can collaborate and deliver a personal service (stand 165).
ApprovalMax was selected as one of the core software components for the recently launched integrated service offering BDODrive. Partnering with BDO, they contribute to BDO’s compliance, outsourcing, and advisory services. They’ll be demonstrating how ApprovalMax helps streamline AP processes by leveraging multi-step and role-based approval workflows, as well as enforcing compliance with corporate standards and audit requirements (stand 464).
Wolters Kluwer is exclusively previewing its innovative, cloud-based CCH OneClick ecosystem, alongside demos of the full CCH Central integrated software suite. They will also have a professional photographer, and a make-up artist at the show, to help visitors looking to improve their impact on social media (stand 960).
ITM Limited has re-launched its already successful AE proposition (eAsE), with a new simplified charging structure. It gives accountants and advisers access to legal and general for only £5 per month, per employer. This allows small and micro employers to access a market leading provider, regardless of size or contribution constraints, and provides their advisers with a sustainable operating model (stand 812).
Receipt Bank is using machine learning and AI to provide the most accurate data extraction in market, increase practice productivity, and automate client chasing. Its software now adapts to clients’ item submission habits, sending tailored Push notifications to clients’ phones, making them twice as likely to submit data in real-time. Visitors can collect a copy of an exclusive report into what early-adopting clients want from the firm of the future (stand 370).
Cognevo is showcasing its flagship product – Otto, the first artificially intelligent accounting program on the market. Otto automatically processes invoices and offers a real-time overview of a company’s financial performance (stand 573).
Postlethwaite Employee Ownership Lawyers is promoting the benefits of employee ownership trusts and employee share schemes. They’ll also be giving away USB sticks loaded with useful information about employee ownership, employee share schemes and Postlethwaite Solicitors, who are on hand to help (stand 611).
Onion Reporting Software is running a free draw for 100 annual software licences at Accountex. The software produces automated Sage accounts in Excel, based on a transaction extract from any of the Sage 50 family of accounting products. A licence would normally cost £50 pa per PC, and allows access to all the Sage clients accessible from that machine (stand 400).
ABAX UK is demonstrating its new and improved software and hardware solutions designed to make the generation of tax compliant mileage records as easy as possible. Visitors can compare driving records to those made using Triplog. Alternatively, users can see how much money they could save by switching to a mileage claim solution (stand 760).
IRIS is showcasing two new products, designed to support accountants on their Making Tax Digital journey: KashFlow for Accountants, an online bookkeeping service that facilitates MTD compliance; and IRIS WebPortal, a web-based platform to showcase the digital services available to clients. These launches are yet another step on the journey towards MTD, and one which will simplify what could be a very complex path over the next year (stand 540).
Qubic Tax, which provides innovative tax solutions to accountants and clients across the UK, is offering Accountex visitors the chance to win tickets for the Crystal Maze experience, as well as cash prizes and giveaways for those who can successfully solve the 3D Qubic Maze. They’ll also be speaking in the Tax Talk Theatre on familiar routes for tax effective remuneration, as well as bringing visitors up-to-date on the latest anti-avoidance measures relating to both current and historical tax strategies (stand 423).
iwoca has announced a new partnership with Xero. This one-click integration now means small businesses can get approved for a flexible credit line of £1,000-£100,000 within hours, using their accounting data (stand 243).
Reckon has unveiled a new Partner Directory platform. The new tool allows users of Reckon One; the cloud based accounting software for small businesses, to access the details of accountants and bookkeepers with a certified knowledge of the platform. While the partner programme enables accountants and bookkeepers access to specialist Reckon resources, including their Reckon One account, marketing tools, dedicated support and training (stand 650).
FloFunder is a new invoice trading platform offering a free subscription to accountancy practices. FloFunder matches clients that have a short term need to liberate cash flow tied up in verified invoices, to those seeking risk-managed investment returns on their money (stand 910F).
Horizon CPD is a newly launched product that provides management tools for accountants, particularly those working in practice, to help plan and record their own development; as well as that of their staff. There will be live demos at the show, plus visitors will be offered access to a free trial and discounts for signing up to the full solution (stand 910A).
Draycir is showcasing Credit Hound V6, the latest release of its automated credit control software. With a new look and many useful new features, it has helped businesses of all shapes and sizes to improve cash flow, reduce debt and get paid faster (stand 741).
2020 Innovation has teamed up with Martyn Ingles, top tax lecturer, to put together its new Making Tax Digital Action Pack. It outlines technical changes and the marketing material needed to help guide clients through the process of Making Tax Digital. Also showcasing: Virtual Marketing Service, Cloud Accounting Action Pack, and CPD training, which extends to an entire practice (stand 523).
Spotcap works with partners to provide unsecured business loans to SMEs. Accountants can use their service to source capital in-house, allowing them to create a new revenue stream and build strong client relationships. They will be hosting a prize draw for a bottle of champagne at the show, plus Spotcap’s senior partnership manager Kevin Vendel will also be speaking in the Future & Growth Theatre, at 10.15am on 11 May (stand 383).
Epayslipsecure is demonstrating its industry-leading payslip administration portal and sharing the latest insights and a free white paper from the Payslip Management Survey 2016. The company was recently shortlisted as ‘Software Supplier of the Year’ at the Global Payroll Association’s Payroll Awards 2017 (stand 674).
California-based, Tesla designs and manufactures electric vehicles, as well as renewable energy storage. The all-electric Model S saloon and Model X SUV are the perfect company cars for both commuting and business travel – combining zero emissions, long range and low cost of ownership. The Tesla Model X will be at the show, and visitors can enter a draw to win a weekend with a Tesla Model S (stand 490).

Including: how to avoid data breaches and how to protect businesses from Ransomware attacks, and understanding the implications of (and how to be compliant with) the forthcoming General Data Protection Regulation (stand 601).
Brokerplan Accountant Plus is a new package designed specifically for accountants, book keepers and tax professionals. It can help them develop a lucrative and sustainable additional revenue stream for their practice, offering a broad range of high demand commercial finance solutions (stand 1070).
Octopus Blue’s business software experts will be demonstrating how small businesses can operate in the most time efficient and cost effective way. They’ll offer advice on why SMEs should review their business process, what they should look for when evaluating software and how to on board and train staff (stand 1009).
mTrio Automated CRM Software is a tailored Accountancy Practice Management and CRM solution, designed by UK accountants, for UK accountants. Quicker, but does robotics mean Daleks?’ at 1pm on 10 May in the Digital Innovation & Technology Theatre (stand 1012).
Panintelligence is offering free trials of its award winning, mobile dashboard reporting solution for financial applications (eg Exchequer, Sage and Exact). Zandra Moore’s presentation on ‘The Future of Financial Reporting’ – how Pi will not only transform financial reporting, but when extended to other key business areas will help improve service levels and profits is taking place in the Growth & Future Theatre on 11 May at 4pm (stand 571).
Practice Ignition is offering live demos of its revenue Dashboard and Smart Proposal system, as well as best practice advice for moving clients to the cloud. They’ll show how to convert more leads, reduce admin time around client on-boarding, and track all the metrics that a modern practice should be. Visitors that start a free trial get a free t-shirt (stand 873).
Savills (UK) will be advising on how recent changes in the Capital Allowances regime has resulted in calls for Buyers to be ‘aware’ and Sellers to be ‘prepared’. In addition, tax savings on historical acquisitions are often unexplored (stand 381).
